Portrait of Père Tanguy

1280x1705.jpg

Vincent van Gogh, 1887, Oil on canvas, 65 cm x 51 cm, Musee Rodin, Paris

Here the colours are bright, colourful and grateful. Julien Francois Tanguy, displayed artists' work in his Parisian art work-shop, where he often took paintings as payment for ground paints.

It seems as though the paintings on display behind, provide the colour palette for the figure of Julien, who sits in front; the paint brush dips and darts between the segments, borrowing and exchanging greens and yellows and lights.
